Hello…. Welcome to Celeste’s Artist Journey

One’s life is interesting in that it is frequently a series of events, experiences and choices constantly evolving to result in the content of that life.  My artist’s journey feels like it has been a road filled with detours.  I am proud to have found my way along my path as I continue to  paint and enjoy the process of expression through visual creativity.  When drawing and painting, I am at peace with myself and time seems to stand still.

My early creative artistic beginnings in my teens were all about shape, color and magic markers.

Artist Statement

Eventually, I wanted to learn more about art and different art making media and how to use them.  In art classes, I began sketching from life and painting in pastels, watercolor and oils.  I attended a variety of art classes in formal settings as well as learning in workshops taught by artists proficient in various art media. I slowly evolved into a representational painter. I enjoy the opportunities to express form, light, depth and movement and find that painting representationally opens up the possibilities for this. I also enjoy painting outside.  Plein Air is a term which means “in the open air” and “plein air” painters often paint an artwork (from start to finish) outside.  Sometimes, I’ll complete a watercolor sketch outside and then have the reference plein air watercolor sketch as the basis for a larger painting. Seeing the colors of a new day arriving with the sunrise or watching the reds, yellows, and blues subtly changing during a sunset are sources of inspiration for me.  Nature pulls me in and simply asks  me to be still and to look around. My paint and brushes are ready.

Celeste was born in New York City and grew up in Greenwich Village. She also spent many days of summer at what she and her family affectionately called, “the lake house” and was very influenced by the nature there. Celeste comes from a lineage of very creative, musical and artistic family members.   Currently she lives in New England with her husband and their pets.
